Grading 

When selecting natural riven slate, two options are available:

Standard 

• Greater variation in colour, tone and pattern - a more rustic appearance

• Surface can have a heavier cleft - ridges 

• Dimensional thickness and sizing are the same as our premium grade

• The grading process does not reflect the "quality" - the difference lies in the selection process

Premium 

• Consistent colour, tone and pattern - a more modern appearance

• Surface has a very flat and smooth texture - no harsh ridges 

• Dimensional thickness and sizing are the same as our standard grade

• The grading process does not reflect the "quality" - the difference lies in the selection process

• The grading process is based on aesthetics to cater for customers tastes

Standard and premium selections are available in the natural riven range and only apply to these sizes :

   3. 1200 x 900 

   4. 1500 x 900

It's important to note that honed and brushed slate are only available in the Standard option. This is because the processing for these finishes requires a greater selection of slabs to choose from that have a heavier riven surface and wider variation in colour and tone. These characteristics become the features that really make honed and brushed slate stand out
